Hampshire based contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, has continued to strengthen its long-standing relationship with local school, Hamble Community Sports College, through the funding of new IT equipment for students. The £2,000 donation follows a series of collaborations between the two institutions, aimed at developing the skill sets of students, particularly in the fields of science and technology.

For the past year, CooperVision has worked closely with the college to provide students the opportunity to learn about engineering and science within a global company, based in the local community. CooperVision regularly conducts factory tours and runs practical interactive workshops for students, offering a firsthand experience of working in the engineering industry.

With STEM (Science, Technology, Maths and Science) programmes playing a large part in Hamble Community Sports College’s curriculum, CooperVision has enabled a large number of students the opportunity to work alongside its own staff in a real-life environment. This insight into the different roles and departments involved in any given task has helped to bring learning to life.

As a result, the opportunity to spend time with engineers at CooperVision has had a huge impact on the students aspiring towards a career in engineering and science.

Speaking of the relationship with CooperVision, Vicky Hall, CEIAG coordinator, Hamble Community Sports College said: “We’re extremely grateful for the donation and all of the opportunities that CooperVision provides to our students. The relationship is going from strength to strength and we look forward to even stronger links in future.”
