Southampton, United Kingdom, 24th July 2014 — Hampshire-based contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, is delighted to have been awarded the prestigious accolade of runner-up in the Healthiest Workplace category at this year’s Britain’s Healthiest Company Awards. With 88 companies and over 27,000 employees taking part, CooperVision was recognised at an awards ceremony earlier this month for its outstanding commitment to the wellbeing of its employees through its distinctive ‘Wellness’ programme.

Now in its second year, ‘Britain’s Healthiest Company’ is a collaboration between The Sunday Telegraph, PruHealth with Vitality and consulting firm, Mercer. The initiative aims to benchmark company performance in relation to creating a positive impact on the health of Britain’s workers and to help understand the effectiveness of current workplace wellbeing policies in engaging employees.

Divided into three categories, the awards celebrate small, medium and large-sized companies with the Healthiest Employees, Healthiest Workplace and overall Britain’s Healthiest Company.

Named joint runner-up with financial holding company, Nomura, CooperVision was recognised for its dedication in helping all its employees live a healthy and successful life, at home and at work, thanks to its ‘Wellness’ programme.

Made up of four pillars: environment, team, health, and benefits; the all-encompassing approach aims to provide a safe, supportive and engaging work environment for employees. Key elements include free fruit every month, family fun days, flu vaccinations and free car parking and bike racks to name a few.

The award was presented at a London ceremony on 1st July and featured inspiring keynote addresses from Sebastian Coe and Dame Carol Black, Chair of the Public Health Responsibility Deal’s Health at Work Network.

Commenting on the award, CooperVision’s UK Manufacturing HR Director, Andrew Brown said: “We are thrilled to be named runner-up in the Healthiest Workplace category at this year’s awards and it’s fantastic to know that our Wellness programme is having such a positive impact on our employees. The programme takes a holistic approach to cover overall general wellbeing, including diet, fitness, motivation, security and benefits.

“As part of the award CooperVision will receive extremely valuable insight into areas of the Wellness programme that are currently performing well and aspects that we can look to improve so we can continue to look after our employees in the best possible way.”
